La Salette Laity Reflection for the 1st Sunday of Lent
March 9th

Today’s Gospel reading tells of the Devil’s failure, after three tries, to successfully tempt Jesus. You might think that the Devil would then reflect: “I have done my very best. Jesus I cannot tempt.” But no! The Gospel tells us that the Devil left Jesus for a time. The Devil will return to Jesus. But Jesus will always be prepared because Jesus spends time in prayer with the Father. So, when we successfully resist temptation, it is no time for complacency.
Our Lady of La Salette asks, “Do you say your prayers well, my children?”. We children of God must always be ready to answer yes. And what better way to pray to resist the Devil than to pray the Rosary, which Mary urges in other apparitions? Our Lady of La Salette specifically mentions to the children the Our Father and Hail Mary, the core of the Rosary.
So, as we begin Lent, let us all find the strength and grace to resist temptation through the power of prayer.
